SV1 LINKAGE INSTALLATION

CONSUMER WARNING: The SV1 is designed with a very heavy duty throttle shaft and blade arrangement designed to resist damage during nitrous induced engine explosions.

As a result of this heavy duty design, some racers are foregoing the use of a proper accelerator pedal stop and are simply using the SV1 "BLADE STOP" as their wide open throttle pedal stop.  This is improper and dangerous.

The wide open throttle "Blade stop" is designed to keep the blade from going OVER CENTER.  DO NOT PRY on this with excessive force or you will bend it and allow your blade to go out of vertical adjustment and go over center.

When installing your linkage arm or cable on your SV1 be certain to:

1. Pull parallel to the direction of travel.

2. Be certain to use a proper accelerator pedal stop on your pedal.

Do not pry off the throttle shaft as a "stop".  This is improper.  Excessive loading of the throttle shaft arm will bend it and not only cause the blade to go "over center" (a dangerous condition), BUT if you bend the tail of the HEAVY DUTY arm excessively inwards it can cause the arm to hang up on the tail of the primary accelerator pump arm.

We realize this takes quite a bit of force to bend this arm, but be aware racing is sometimes rather violent and can exert these kinds of forces on the arm UNLESS you use a proper stop on your accelerator pedal (proper race cars and performance vehicles should all be equipped with adjustable accelerator pedal stops built into the floors of the vehicle just for this reason).   An adjustable pedal stop also keeps you from breaking throttle cables on cable equipped cars.

As a precaution we ask that you make sure there is proper clearance between the primary pump arm and the throttle shaft at time of installation and during regular maintenance.

With the engine off simply open the shaft to its wide open throttle position and check for clearance between the tail of the pump arm and the edge of the throttle shaft (see photo).

OR you can simply remove the primary pump arm and cut 1/2" of material from the tail of the pump arm to avoid any risk of the throttle hanging up at part throttle and remove this maintenance item from your checklist.

SV1 models from 3/2/10 (inv # 25601 on up) will incorporate a shortened primary pump arm to avoid this maintenance need.
